Autumn Magic in Melbourne CBD: Street Life, Chess & New Train Stations
There’s something truly special about autumn in Melbourne. The crisp air, golden leaves, and warm sunlight transform the city into a photographer’s dream. On this beautiful autumn day, I headed into Melbourne CBD with my camera to soak up the atmosphere, explore the city streets, and capture everyday moments that make Melbourne feel alive.

One of the highlights of the day was visiting the brand-new ANZAC and the State Library Station. The station’s sleek modern architecture perfectly contrasts Melbourne’s historic streets and laneways. It’s exciting to see how the city continues to evolve while still holding onto its unique character and charm.
From there, I wandered through the CBD, taking in the street life that makes Melbourne one of the most vibrant cities in Australia. Cafés buzzing with conversation, trams rolling through the streets, and people enjoying the sunshine created the perfect atmosphere for some spontaneous street photography.
A stop at the iconic State Library Victoria was a must. Outside the library, groups of people gathered around the giant chessboards, deep in concentration as curious onlookers watched nearby. It’s moments like these that make Melbourne feel so connected — strangers brought together over a simple game of chess in the middle of the city.
The autumn colours surrounding the library added even more magic to the scene. Warm sunlight reflected off the historic buildings while fallen leaves danced across the pavement. Every corner seemed to offer another photo opportunity.
Street photography has always been about capturing real moments, and Melbourne never disappoints. Whether it’s architecture, people, public spaces, or quiet candid moments, the city constantly tells stories through its streets.
